Postcard from Germany

Bertram of Minden (1345 - 1415), also known as Master Bertram, was a German international Gothic painter primarily of religious art. His most famous surviving work is the large Grabow Altarpiece also known as the Petri Altar, painted around 1383. Originally located in St. Petri church, it is now in the Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Germany. This beautiful postcard with matching stamps and special pictorial postmark was posted by my best correspondent friend Erhard Molbitz.

Postcard from Germany

Bremen is the capital of the "Land Free Hanseatic City of Bremen". At this city-state still Bremerhaven belongs. Since 1260 the city retained its independence until today. The old Town Hall (1405 - 1410) with the "Roland" (symbol of the free market) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) is an 18th century neoclassical triumphal arch in Berlin, one of the most well-known landmarks in Germany. This postcard was posted with special postmarks on May 8, 2014 by my best correspondent friend Erhard Molbitz

Special Postmark for the 250th Birthday Anniversary of J.G Schadow. He is known as the most famous sculptors of the German Classicism. His most famous work is the Quadriga on the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin

Postcard from Germany

Hansel and Gretel is a well-known fairy tale of German origin, recorded by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister threatened by a cannibalistic witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery. The two children save their lives by outwitting her. The tale has been adapted to various media, most notably the opera and a stop-motion animated feature film made in the 1950s based on the opera.

Postcard from Germany

Castle Stolzenfels finished in 1259, Stolzenfels was used to protect the toll station at the Rhine, were the ships, back there when the main transport for goods. Over the years it was extended several times, occupied by French and Swedish troops in the "Thirty Years" war, and finally destroyed by the French during the "Nine Years" war. Supported by famous neoclassic architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel , the castle was completely remodeled in the then fashionable neo-Gothic style. It is a symbol of the "Romantic Rhine".

Postcard from Germany

Lower Oder Valley National Park is a shared German-Polish nature reserve. Its comprises the western banks of the Oder river within the Ukcermark district in the German state of Brandenburg as well as the steep eastern banks in the Gryfino and Police counties of the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship further north. Postcard from Germany

The boat lift Magdeburg - Rothensee connects the Mitteland Canal with the river Elbe. It was constructed in 1939 with a lifting height of 18,4 meter and pool size of 85 meter x 12 meter. This 1988 East German maximum card was sent by my best correspondent friend Erhard Molbitz from Postdam, using great German wildlife stamps.

The "Ziegelgraben" bascule bridge connects Stralsund and the island Danholm, constructed in 1936, length of 133 meters and still operating.

The beech forest dominated the landscape of Central Europe. The beech forest does not reach gigantic height but is an imposing tree. These forest belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
